On the London Brewers’ Market blog, we are featuring a monthly round-up of upcoming and unmissable events for London’s beer drinkers introduced by Rebecca Pate of Brewing East. Here are her picks for what’s happening in Londontown.
Beer festival season is upon us! August is brimming with fringe events, tap takeovers and highlights of the London craft beer calendar. Whether you’re a cask or keg aficionado, there’s plenty of beer to be enjoyed around the capital across the next few weeks, kicking off with The London Craft Beer Festival at the beginning of the month, followed by the Great British Beer Festival – more on these below.
BREW BY NUMBERS TAP TAKEOVER AND MEET THE BREWER: Thursday, 2nd August, 6pm-11pm. Get started on a busy month of craft beer at The Duke’s Head in Highgate with this Brew By Numbers tap takeover. This event is part of the pub’s Summer Fest 2018 and will offer a sneak peak of the brewery’s London Craft Beer Festival offerings. The Duke’s Head, 16 Highgate High Street, N6 5JG. THE LONDON CRAFT BEER FESTIVAL 2018: Friday, 3rd August – Sunday, 5th August. Tobacco Dock in East London will be heaving with craft beer fans over the first weekend in August. The London Craft Beer Festival (LCBF) is London’s biggest craft beer festival and boasts an unbeatable line-up of international brewers, food vendors and live music. London brewers will also be represented, from Bermondsey to Tottenham (and a healthy dose of East London – make sure to check out the East London Brewers’ Bar!). LOVE CASK BEER: Friday, 3rd August, 4pm – late. Consider this your official LCBF afterparty. Join fellow revellers at The Pembury Tavern, the Five Points Brewing Company‘s new taproom. If you missed your chance to sample the new Fuller’s & Friends collaborations at LCBF’s Cask Yard, then get your fill at this event, including the Five Points x Fuller’s Brewery’s Transatlantic Golden Ale in addition to other Five Points beers on cask. CAMRA’S GREAT BRITISH BEER FESTIVAL: Tuesday, 7th August – Saturday, 11th August. If real ale makes you happy, head to CAMRA’s Great British Beer Festival at Olympia for over 900 examples (in addition to ciders and perries). Plenty of food options, traditional pub games and live music makes this a great day out. Some London brewers will be represented, including The Five Points Brewing Company, who will be serving up their delicious Derailed Porter. Olympia London, Hammersmith Rd, Hammersmith, W14 8UX. DRINK THE BAR DRY AT THE PEMBURY TAVERN: Saturday, 11th August – Sunday, 12th August. We return to The Pembury Tavern for this event because the pub needs YOU. They’ve got heaps of beer to get through to empty their cellar as they’re having a few renovations, including the arrival of a brand new kitchen from Italian-American food gurus, Capish?. They’ve got plenty of special beers to get through, so head down for some discounted drinks and to bid The Pembo adieu (until September). The Pembury Tavern, 90 Amhurst Rd, E8 1JH. BEER FESTY: Saturday, 11th August, 3pm – late. The Star by Hackney Downs is getting into the beer festival spirit with both a showcase of beer and music. Six breweries are involved, including some London-based darlings, The Five Points Brewing Company, Signature Brew, Orbit Beers and Pillars Brewery. Get your £5 ticket in advance for a tasting flight and a shot of bourbon (oof!). The Star by Hackney Downs, 35 Queensdown Rd, E5 8JQ. Advance tickets are £5 and can be purchased here.
THE HACKNEY BEER HOP: Saturday, 11th August, 12pm-5pm. The Five Points Brewing Company are certainly very busy this month, but this one is for charity, so listen up: join them for the second edition of the Hackney Beer Hop with Headway East London, a local charity supporting people affected by brain injury. Grab yourself a £10 ticket – all proceeds of this go to the charity – and enjoy an afternoon of being led around East London to The Five Points Brewery, The Cock Tavern, Pressure Drop Brewing x Verdant Brewing Co Taproom, The Chesham Arms, Deviant & Dandy Brewery and finishing at The Pembury Tavern. WEIRD BEARD TAP TAKEOVER: Wednesday, 15th August – Friday, 17th August. West London is in luck because Weird Beard Brew Co have been invited to take over the taps at The Old Pack Horse. Located very close to the actual brewery, the bar is promising some of the best of Weird Beard’s core range in addition to some delicious specials. The Old Pack Horse, 434 High Rd, Chiswick, W4 5TF. DEPTFORD CRAFT BEER FEAST II: Sunday, 26th August, 12pm-9pm. Hop Stuff Brewery‘s Deptford Craft Beer Feast is back for the summer (and on a bank holiday weekend, no less!). This was a very popular event in March, so be sure to get down early to enjoy beers from a lengthy list of London favourites. Throw some delicious street food and live music into the mix and you’ve got yourself a party. Deptford Market Yard, SE8 4BX. Free, more information here.
