On the London Brewers’ Market blog, we are featuring a monthly round-up of upcoming and unmissable events for London’s beer drinkers introduced by Rebecca Pate of Brewing East. Here are her picks for what’s happening in Londontown.
This year, April brings us such delights as April Fools’ Day and Easter (one of our favourite holidays for celebrating gluttony). In addition to this, there’s also the promise of summer with rising temperatures (in theory, anyway), blossoming flowers and – perhaps most importantly – an influx of beer events.
So who said that April was the cruelest month? Let’s go.
CASK 2018: Saturday, 7 April from 12pm – Sunday, 8 April. Set to be one of April’s highlights, this festival hosted by Affinity Brew Co aims to celebrate all aspects of cask beer. They’ve invited 30 of the most innovative breweries around the UK to serve up glorious cask across the weekend, including London-based Anspach & Hobday, Brew By Numbers, The Five Points Brewing Company, Partizan Brewing, Pressure Drop Brewing, Redemption Brewing Co., Signature Brew, Weird Beard Brew Co, and more. Affinity Brewing Company, Railway Arch 7, SE16 3LR. Tickets are £5 and include a glass, brochure and first pour.
PUBHD AT FORREST ROAD: Tuesday, 10 April, 7pm-10pm. Join a billing of academics and students as they endeavour to explain their PhD to you in less than 10 minutes, all in the confines of the Forrest Road Brewing Co taproom. This means that not only are you increasing your intelligence, but you can grab a pint of something tasty in the process. Forest Road Brewing Company, 8 Netil Lane, E8 3RL. Free, more information here.
SIGNATURE BREW TAP TAKEOVER. Thursday, 12 April, 5pm-10pm. Borough Market’s legendary craft beer Mecca, The Rake, is hosting the Signature Brew team for this Thursday night tap takeover. Details are TBC, but we wager that there might be some ritual signing of the bar’s walls. The Rake, 14 Winchester Walk, Borough Market, SE1 9AG. Free, more information here.
BREWHEADZ TAP TAKEOVER: Friday, 13 April, 12pm-11pm. Join Italian trio Brewheadz Ltd at Mercato Metropolitano for this showcase of their delicious beer. The tap list is looking immense, so best to spend this Friday the 13th somewhere safe, with no black cats in sight (although we really can’t guarantee that there won’t be any black cats in the area, sorry). Mercato Metropolitano, 42 Newington Causeway, SE1 6DR. Free, more information here.
TWO TRIBES TAPROOM OPENING: Saturday, 14 April, 11am – midnight. Heads up: Two Tribes Brewing are coming to King’s X. The venue is aimed at both beer and music lovers, promising ten taps of beer alongside cider and cocktail options. During the grand opening, tours will be conducted in the brewery, hand-pulled pizzas served up to punters and serious tunes provided by DJs all day and night long. This might just be our kind of tribe. Two Tribes Brewing Co, Tileyard Studios, Tileyard Rd, King’s Cross, N7 9AH. Free, more information here.
*new* TWO TRIBES X THE RAKE TAP TAKEOVER: Thursday, 19 April, 5pm-8pm. If you missed the big Two Tribes Brewing opening celebrations, then head down to Borough Market’s The Rake to have a taste of their beers. The crew at Two Tribes have already proven that they can throw a party, so this should be no exception. The Rake, 14 Winchester Walk, Borough Market, SE1 9AG. Free, more information here.
*new* BREWHEADZ NEW BEERS LAUNCH: Saturday, 21 April, 12pm-8pm. Those lovely Italians behind Brewheadz Ltd invite you down to the launch of two beers, Downing Mango (fruit & yogurt sour) and Pineapple Wannabe (piña colada porter). If those didn’t sound delicious enough (and they really sound delicious), they’ll also have some live music from Dead Tribe and gloriously tasty street food from Tasty Tangy Treats. Brewheadz, Unit 16a Rosemary Industrial Park Rosebery Avenue, N17 9SR. Free, more information here.
FIVE YEARS OF THE FIVE POINTS: Saturday, 21 April, 1pm-8pm. Our sister brewery, The Five Points Brewing Company, is turning 5! Where HAS the time gone? We can’t wait to help them celebrate, so make sure to get your ticket for this unmissable afternoon under the brewery arches. It’s been a massive year for the Five Points already, with their ambitious crowdfunding campaign and their acquisition of Hackney boozer, The Pembury Tavern. Raise a glass to them and you’ll get to sample all five of the special collaboration beers brewed especially for the occasion with some of the UK’s most loved breweries. Plus there’s tasty food served up by Capish? and Oli Baba’s and some awesome tunes guaranteed. The Five Points Brewing Company, 3 Institute Pl, E8 1JE. Tickets cost £15 and include five halves of beer and a commemorative glass.
PRESSURE DROP & FRIENDS: Saturday, 21 April, 2pm-8pm. The lovely team over at Pressure Drop Brewing are handing over their taps to some of their mates with their ‘& Friends’ series.
