London Brewers’ Market Event Round-up: April 2017

On the London Brewers’ Market blog, we are featuring a monthly round-up of upcoming and unmissable events for London’s beer drinkers introduced by Rebecca Pate of Brewing East. Here are her picks for what’s happening in Londontown.

Wait, it’s April already?

Okay, we’ll endure the showers in exchange for the occasional clement afternoon. All we ask for is just enough warmth to make beer gardens a destination. The days are longer now, so we once again find the energy to endure the 9 to 5 and still fit in drinks with friends.

For you, April showers might mean April sours – or maybe you’re sticking to your perennial pint? No matter what you’re drinking, there’s plenty of outdoor potential this month. And when it inevitably does rain, there’s always a pub or taproom nearby.

LONDON BREWERS’ MARKET: Saturday, April 1, 11am-6.30pm. We’re kick-starting April with another highly anticipated London Brewers’ Market in the Old Spitalfields Market. In conjunction with the Independent Record Label Market, 25 of London’s hottest and newest breweries will be wrangled together in one place. This is a great purview of what the London beer scene is looking like right now, all in a buzzing East London atmosphere with a soundtrack provided by live DJs. Catch the first LBM appearance of breweries such as Brewheadz and Affinity Brew Co. Old Spitalfields Market, 16 Horner Square, Spitalfields, London EC1 6EW. Free:

BEAVERTOWN BLOODY ‘ELL LAUNCH: Saturday, April 8, various locations and times. This hotly anticipated annual release is finally here – Beavertown Brewery is unleashing their freshly brewed Bloody ‘Ell blood orange IPA across several select venues and in their Tottenham Hale taproom (it will be on general release from Monday, April 10). There’s a reason why people clamour about this juicy beer and we’re eager to taste this year’s batch. Beavertown Taproom, 17-18 Lockwood Industrial Estate, London N17 9QP and other locations. Free:

UNITE BEER LAUNCH PARTY AT WILD CARD: Saturday, April 8, 6pm-12am. Wild Card Brewery invited a group of women – brewers and from the social group Crafty Beer Girls – into their Brewhouse for International Women’s Day on March 8 2017. They brewed United Local Rhubarb Pale Ale as part of International Women’s Collaboration Brew Day (IWCBD), where women around the globe come together and brew under the ‘Unite’ brand. The fruits of their labour will be launched at Wild Card with some great music guaranteed, including an ‘exclusively feminist’ juke box. Wild Card Brewery, Unit 7, Ravenswood Industrial Estate, Shernhall Street, London E17 9HQ. Free:

HOMERTON INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF BEER AND SNACKS: Thursday, 13 April, 4pm-Sunday 16 April at 11pm. The Adam & Eve pub in Homerton is putting together this little hoo-hah over the long Easter weekend. Food and beer? Sold. London breweries will be represented by The Five Points Brewing Company, Beavertown Brewery, Wild Card Brewery and East London Brewing Company. If that wasn’t enough to get this in your diary, Taiwanese food will be dished out by Bao in collaboration with Thai masters Som Saa and Kiln. An international selection of bar snacks will also be on hand in addition to an impressive line-up of DJs. Sounds better than the typical Easter diet comprised entirely of chocolate, right? The Adam & Eve, 155 Homerton High Street, London E9 6AS. Free:

HOP STUFF SORACHI ACE LAUNCH PARTY: Thursday, 13 April, 6pm-9pm. Happy accidents do happen, as proven by Hop Stuff Brewery. Crossed wires led to them receiving a delivery of Sorachi Ace hops from their supplier and they’ve adhered to the old ‘when life gives you lemons…’ mantra: they’ve brewed a special red ale and will be pairing this beer with some delicious Japanese-inspired Furikake loaded fries at The Taproom. For a tenner, you’ll get two drinks, one helping of fries and will have a shot at some fabulous prizes on the night. A tenner well spent, we think. The Taproom, 15 Major Draper Street, Woolwich, London, SE18 9GD. Tickets are £10 each and can be purchased here.

HACKNEY BREWERY AT THE CAT & MUTTON: Thursday, 13 April, 8pm-late. The folks at Hackney Brewery are taking over four lines at The Cat & Mutton in Broadway Market. They’ll be serving up their Kapow! Pale Ale, Push Eject IPA, Lager and a new pale with juicy Waimea, Galaxy and Motueka hops. The evening’s playlist will be curated by the Hackney crew, who will also be on the scene, and provided by a live DJ. Spoiler: it’s likely going to be an eclectic mix that will have you shuffling your feet in no time. The Cat & Mutton, 76 Broadway Market, London E8 4QJ.

40 HILLS OF ISTANBUL PARTY AT 40FT: Saturday, April 15, 12pm-11pm. Head to Dalston for this celebration of Anatolian history and culture at the Bootyard. The guys from 40FT Brewery take reached out to the local Turkish community and promise some delicious fare from Irem Aksu, who has curated a menu of both tradition and contemporary Turkish food – expect delicacies such as midye dolma, borek and balık-ekmek in addition to some street food inspired by Istanbul. Further cultural insights will be provided by music, film and dance throughout the afternoon/evening. You might want to save your appetite for this. 40FT Brewery taproom, Bootyard, Abbott Street, London E8 3DP. Free:
