London Brewers’ Market Event Round-up: December 2016

It’s December, which is officially the season of merriment. We all know that this time of year often entails a string of pub outings with just about everyone you’ve ever spoken to. Whether you’re pencilled in for Christmas drinks with loved ones, or with people you merely share a communal kitchen with, you better make those drinks count.

We’ve rounded up the best events happening around London this month to make sure that your December is more festive than Christmas pudding stuffed with mince pies.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS AT ANSPACH & HOBDAY: Friday, December 2. 5pm-9pm. Join the team at Anspach & Hobday to get into the Christmas spirit with mince pies and festive jumpers. Revellers can sing along with a choir, who will be carolling from 7pm. This year’s Pfeffernuse Saison will also be available on the evening, making it the perfect way to ease into December (with a beer in hand, naturally). Space inside is limited, so be sure to get there early and nab your front row seats. Anspach & Hobday, 118 Druid Street, SE1 2HH London. Free:

FOURPURE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF BEARDED MEN IN SILKY KIMONOS 2017: Friday, December 2. 7:30pm-11:30pm. In association with Bearded Men in Silky Kimonos, Fourpure Brewing Company are hosting a very unusual taproom session. Whether or not you’re into ‘hirsute hostelry’, the Bearded Men in Silky Kimonos calendar is the must-have pressie of 2017. They’ll be selling at £10 a pop for that bearded gentleman in your life, but that’s not all – as per usual, there will be 15 delicious beers on tap from Fourpure in addition to some juicy Argentine steak sandwiches served up by High Steaks. So, really, there’s something for everyone, regardless of their bearded status. Fourpure Brewing Co, 22 Bermondsey Trading Estate, Rotherhithe New Road, SE16 3LL. Free:

THE FIVE POINTS BREWERY AT VENN STREET MARKET: Saturday, December 3, 10 & 17, 10am-4pm. CHRISTMAS SHOPPING. Yes, it can be a nightmare. Why not avoid the heaving crowds at shopping centres and take a mosey around the stalls of Venn Street Market’s independent vendors instead? Pick up some unique treasures and get festive with a beer or two from The Five Points Brewing Company, who will be running a bar for the three Saturdays leading up to Christmas. The market vendors will be selling cheese, preserves and other delicious treats that will make someone’s stocking very happy. Venn Street Market, Venn Street, London SW4 0AT. Free:

BEERBLEFISH CHRISTMAS BAZAAR: Saturday, December 3, 12pm-4pm. The Beerblefish Brewing Company are setting up a stall at St. Paul’s Church in Harringay to bring the gift of beer to the people. While taking in the amusements of the Christmas bazaar, crowds can enjoy a range of Beerblefish beers to drink or take home. The bazaar is inside the church hall, so no worries about the cold and no excuses to not pay these guys a visit. St Paul’s Church, Harringay, Wightman Road, Harringay, N4 1RW London. Free:

THE FIVE POINTS TAP TAKEOVER AT THE GUN: Saturday, December 3, 1pm-5pm. Can’t get enough of the Five Points Brewing Company’s beer? Well, why not head over to East London’s The Gun pub for a Saturday afternoon to celebrate East End Independents’ Day and the Well Street Market launch, where they’ll be commandeering the taps and tunes. Chat with the team about the beer, the brewery and what’s planned for 2017 while downing a pint or two. It’s the makings of a pretty successful Saturday afternoon (and another chance to get some Christmas shopping done at the Well Street Market). The Gun, 235 Well Street, E9 6RG London. Free:

BEERBLEFISH CHRISTMAS BOTTLE SHOP: Saturday, 10 December, 10am – Sunday 11 December, 6pm. A trip to the Beerblefish Brewing Company‘s brewhouse might help secure your reign as best Santa ever. Beerblefish Brewing, Unit 6, Georgiou Business Park, Edmonton, London N18 2PG. Free:

AFFINITY TAPROOM LAUNCH AND PUB CRAWL: Saturday, 10 December, 6pm-11pm. Another brewery has made Tottenham its home and welcome all to their launch party. Affinity Brew Co, founded by two friends Ben Duckworth and Steve Grae, are currently based in a shipping container in the courtyard of Five Miles London, a music and events venue. They don’t have a core range of beers because they’re set on maintaining a creative and versatile approach to brewing. Be the first to try our their beers and then follow them on a pub crawl of their five favourite bars in London, where their beers will be pouring. The taproom is open from 10am and the pubcrawl begins at 6pm. Affinity Brew Co, 39A Markfield Road, London N15 4QA. Free:

HOP SWAP V5 WITH HAMMERTON: Tuesday, 13 December, 8pm-11pm. Swing by The Cock Tavern in Hackney to catch up with the guys at Hammerton Brewery and participate in a friendly bottle share/swap. Everyone is welcome, but contribute a bottle of something to be entered into their fantastic mystery raffle. Food will be on hand from Silver Screen Suppers and a guest hot sauce – which is yet to be confirmed – will be on hand for the adventurous types. *new* SAMBROOK’S CHRISTMAS 2016 OPEN DAY: Saturday, 17 December, 11am-10pm. Free:

*new* AFFINITY’S CHRISTMAS BAUBLES: Saturday, 17 December, 12pm-9pm. Missed Affinity Brew Co‘s launch party? Don’t fret, because here’s another chance to sample their beer, but in festive surroundings. They’re opening up their taproom in Tottenham and will be pouring five beers and selling bottles on site. One of the beers proffered is the brand new Breeze, a lime and coriander saison. And then there’s the secret Christmas-inspired beer, which we’re advised we will love. We’re thinking liquefied mince pies… Affinity Brew Co. 39A Markfield Road, N15 4QA London. Free:

*new* JAMAICAN CHRISTMAS PARTY WITH 40FT: Saturday, 17 December, 3pm-11pm. Things are going to get pretty deep at 40ft Brewery‘s Caribbean Christmas do. Alongside a soundtrack of rock and reggae, there will be jerk chicken and even a stout punch on offer. And the appearance of Deep, Deeper and Deepest- that’s three variations of their stout (the one you know, an export and an imperial). So there’s no stout that this event will bring good times and sunshine to Dalston. 40FT Brewery, Bootyard, Abbott Street, E8 3DP London. Free:

*new* CRATE CHRISTMAS: Saturday, 17 December, 6pm- Sunday, 18 December 2:30am. Expect good music, good food and great beer at Crate Brewery‘s Christmas party celebration. Some crappy Christmas songs are also guaranteed to be thrown into the mix. Mick’s Garage, Unit 8, Queen’s Yard Hackney Wick E9 5EN London. Free before 10pm, £5 after:
